The Sofia Declaration on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans was signed on November 10, 2020, by the Western Balkan leaders during the Western Balkans Summit under the Berlin Process initiative. The declaration aligns with the European Green Deal and outlines a commitment to transition the region towards sustainability, climate neutrality, and environmental protection. It covers five key areas: climate, energy, and mobility; circular economy; depollution; sustainable agriculture and food production; and biodiversity. The declaration's purpose is to guide the Western Balkans in adopting the principles of the European Green Deal, thereby ensuring economic convergence with the EU, addressing environmental and climate challenges, and fostering a green and resilient post-pandemic recovery. The leaders agreed to implement specific actions within these areas and committed to strengthening regional cooperation, improving governance, and aligning with EU policies to achieve these goals. The Regional Cooperation Council was tasked with coordinating the implementation and monitoring of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
